Toshiba 19AV600U 19 Inch LCD HDTV
When it comes to kitchen TVs, the Toshiba 19AV600U is about as high-end as it gets. To begin, there's the gorgeous 18.5" LCD HD screen that is as sharp as a razor with vibrant colors and natural looking flesh tones. It also has a wide vertical and horizontal viewing angle so the picture doesn't get washed out when you reach for a saucepan.
Combined with the latest high-tech features and sleek styling, this TV delivers. We'd have to rate it one of the best we've seen for the kitchen.
The 19AV600U also doesn't skimp on connections either. You get two sets of component video/audio, two HDMI connections, a composite video with S video connection and another composite video/audio connection on the side. There are also two audio out connections.
Many kitchen TVs suffer from tinny sound that lacks the power to be heard above a running faucet. Toshiba have tackled this problem with front facing speakers that provide adequate audio levels and a digital volume control with enough precision to smooth out any sudden jumps in loudness. For die hard audiophiles there is also a Dolby Digital output which lets you play the TV's sound through a receiver or stereo. The only shortcoming worth mentioning is the fact that Toshiba neglected to include a headphone jack.
The TV arrives with the base stand attached, but folded away. Rotating the stand to the upright position has tripped up quite a few new owners. There is nothing in the user's manual to point out a small locking button that you need to locate in order to release the stand. Unfortunately, it is hard to reach and you might have to unscrew the base to reach it. The good news is that unlike the Toshiba 15LV505, this model can be attached to a wall or under cabinet mount using any VESA 100mm compatible hardware.
The full function remote is nicely laid out with the most common functions intuitively in the right position. Setup is straightforward with an initial auto scan and you can re-label the channel descriptions from cryptic numbers to something that is easier to remember. You can also build your own favorite channel line up for easy surfing. There is a sleep timer and a game timer if you want to limit video gaming activities.
One unusual feature is a freeze frame button. Pressing this will freeze the video picture but the audio programming continues on as normal.
