Coby TFTV1524 15 in LCD HDTV
If you've spent any time searching for small screen HDTVs you'll know that there is a very limited selection. The craze for ever bigger screen sizes has force many manufacturers to abandon this market completely. Fortunately, there are still a few models left, with the Coby TFTV1524 turning out to be a surprising diamond in the rough.
True, Coby is not exactly a household name in the world of consumer electronics, but it seems they have managed to produce an impressive little kitchen TV for a rock bottom price.
The TFTV1524 sports a 15 inch HD widescreen LCD with a full complement of connections including HDMI, Coaxial Antenna, Component Video, Composite Video and S-Video. It can also do double duty as a computer monitor with its 15-pin PC VGA port.
It's slim, light and easily portable making it ideal for any small kitchen where counter space is in short supply.
The screen is bright with good saturation, but the viewing angle is somewhat limited, especially in the vertical. The TV comes with an adjustable stand but you might find the tilt range too small to be of much use. Depending on your home setup the best option might be to switch to a good hinged wall mount.
Sound quality from the built in speakers is typical for a TV this size. Unless you have a very noisy environment they should prove adequate, but don't expect booming bass.
It comes with a full function remote, but as with most HDTVs there is a noticeable lag when switching channels. If you like to surf this could prove annoying after a while. Be aware that most universal remotes are not compatible with this TV.
The built-in channel scan does a good job of finding nearby stations, but there is no way to manually enter a channel. If you happen to live in a rural setting where each station signal is coming from a different direction you're only option is to re-scan each time you change channel (not very practical).

The Coby TFTV1524 offers an impressive feature set for a low price and comes with enough connections to keep even the most die hard techie happy. It's small enough to fit into tight spaces but the large screen means you don't have to squint.
